100 _ 100.10.5" x 10.5" x 17" Wooden box with cloth and metal strips covering, latches but no key, missing top leather handle strap. Name on side "W.N.Brown/Muchakinock, Iowa". This was a very small coal mining town in Iowa owned by Consolidation Coal Company which "…started out as a summer village of the Sac and Fox Indians". It was established on August 10, 1874 and was moved to Buxton, Iowa in 1900. It is believed that Mr. Brown was a Plumber by trade and this was his tool box. On page 58 of Lee Ann Simmers Dickey's book titled "Before Buxton The Muchakinock Years" it states that Mr. W.N. Brown, age 29 married Ms. Rosa Strange on January 21, 1891. The book is included in this lot. This is an absolute one of a kind artifact of Iowa Coal mining history from a now nonexistent town, in which only a few photos and possibly a single token remain.
